CHRYSALIS
In Lauren Carrera’s solo exhibition at Building 5, Chrysalis, her site-specific installation invites us to contemplate our very individual responses to our collective experience of the last two years, evoking themes drawn from the pandemic and quarantine: insularity, transformation (self-directed and externally imposed), our changing relationship with the natural and manufactured worlds, supply chain complexities, and a future which suddenly seems to be a blank canvas. Chrysalis also draws inspiration from the working warehouse atmosphere and history shared by Building 5, the Northwest Marine Artworks, and the North Coast Seed Company building.
Carrera is a Portland-based artist whose science and art-based installations have been exhibited at the San Diego Museum of Art, the Oceanside Museum of Art, Grossmont College, and the Museum of Monterey.
